ABOUT RON POWELL
I began doing abstract art until I was 8 years old and there was no more room on the fridge door to put more.
Through my teens, I tried charcoal, pastels and calligraphy – but my thoughts & interest in girls were really what was on my mind back then.
I enlisted in the US Coast Guard where I was from 1965 – 1969. I got married to my high school sweetheart and two beautiful girls. I also bought my first house.Then, I began painting. I painted the front windows at Christmas time with Santas and cartoon characters for the kids. I continued this exercise for 15 years for all the kids in the neighborhood.
Fishing and the kids took up a lot of my leisure time for many years of joy. Then I retired and moved to Florida to be with my oldest daughter and granddaughter. Shortly after arriving in SW Florida, I was lucky enough to have met Betty Leis, who gave me lessons on mixing oil paints and I’ve been experimenting with different scenes and fish – plus whatever piques my interest at the time.
I hope you enjoy seeing my work displayed at Gulf Coast Village Independent Living Center from early July thru mid to late August, 2026 and at The ART House (N. Ft. Myers ARTS Association) on the Gulf Coast Village campus.
