In 2015, the North Fort Myers Civic Association, in partnership with the Shell Factory, sponsored an event that was attended by all Lee County Commissioners that asked what could be done to improve North Fort Myers. The Commissioners agreed to assign a team to look into this and, two years later in 2017, a 200+ page report showed the need for North Fort Myers to become a county cultural power with a focus on the arts. A group of local artists then set out to make that happen by creating the Lee County Arts Center, Inc. Through tireless efforts on the part of this team and many other local artists, they raised money, created events, set about trying to find a co-op gallery space and brought much-needed attention to the area. Unfortunately, the onset of the Covid epidemic stopped the activities of this passionate and hard-working group.

Not until 2023, was the Organization revived with plans to now include all forms of creative pursuits. The group changed its name to North Fort Myers Arts Association (NFMAA) to more accurately reflect the population being served.

NFMAA now has a website, a Facebook page and a new Board of eager creatively-minded individuals who are moving the wheels of progress.

Our mission is to engage area residents in a wide variety of arts activities through learning opportunities, networking and an appreciation of all types of arts. We strive to promote the arts and provide important resources to all creators in our community, to have a vibrant presence that keeps creative individuals and groups connected and inspired with demonstrations, special events, and more. Our goal is to help our members grow, learn and find their creative voice. Whether a beginner or a professional, all are welcome to join us in making North Fort Myers a vibrant, artistic community.
